Holland, MI based Tiara has a reputation for lovely boats that are both well designed and well built--they're in the same league as Hatteras, Ocean Alexander and Viking--and the 4000 Express was their first mid-cabin; it proved tremendously versatile and rock solid, and eventually became one of Tiara's best selling designs.

And it's easy to see why. The boat is fast and comfortable (with a total of 840 hp from twin Cummins 6CTA 8.3 diesel engines, SPARROW cruises comfortably at 10 knots, easily at 21 and tops out near 30), the solid teak joinery down below is absolutely stunning and the hydraulic hideaway cockpit tables really are amazing (I'm surprised ALL boat don't have 'em!).

This particular example is owned by a knowledgeable, conscientious yachtsman who has given SPARROW her just desserts, ensuring many years of trouble free service. She routinely benefits from weekly use during the yachting season in Northern California waters as well as an active off-season maintenance schedule, and shows absolutely bristol--the entire vessel, and especially the engine room, is maintained to a yacht standard you rarely find any more, and she really must be seen to be appreciated.

A partial list includes extensive work on the twin diesels, as befits a performance yacht of this caliber: the cylinder heads have been removed, checked and serviced, new turbo chargers, exhaust elbows, heat exchangers and aftercoolers - all engine hoses replaced. Post-service engineering involved engine alignment checks, propeller balancing and pitch tuning to ensure correct operating conditions under all engine loading demands. A fresh water flush system is installed and used routinely after saltwater is run through the engines and generator.

Furthermore, SPARROW is equipped with a 8.5kW Paguro VTE genset (2019, made by Kohler so parts are readily available) with barely 200 hours clocked, new Simrad chartplotter, autopilot and depth sounder in 2020, new Sunbrella bimini and aft deck enclosure with polycarbonate helm station windows in 2021, eleven new AGM batteries and Pronautic charger also in 2021, recent bottom paint at which time new PSS shaft seals were installed, all the interior soft goods and beautiful teak joinery shows as new, much more.

Also, note she's lying in a potentially transferable Marina Village Yacht Harbor slip--the microclimate there is one of the best in the Bay area, and Marina Village is one of the nicest marinas you'll find anywhere.

Accommodations and Layout

From stern, step onto oversized swim platform, then up thru polished stainless steel gates port or starboard to cockpit with fore and aft facing settees separated by a hydraulically actuated hide-away fiberglass table. Access the engine room via a hatch hidden in the aft facing cockpit settee, or by raising (also hydraulically) the cockpit sole between the two settees.

Step forward up a to the enclosed bridge deck with helm station and seat for three to starboard.

Down three steps forward to interior with galley to port and a guest cabin with double berth and a hidden electric toilet tucked aft starboard. A step forward and across from the galley amidships is an enormous 11 foot long raised C shaped settee with a beautiful solid teak fold-leaf dining table.

Continuing forward, access to port full head including a VacuFlush toilet, an enclosed stall shower and separate access to the master stateroom far forward with queen pedestal berth (which articulates up for storage below) and private access to the forward head (just lock the salon access door).

Note interior is beautifully fit out in solid teak and leather (and check out the removable barstools at salon table!) ; it evokes a traditional yacht club and shows as new. 6'5+ headroom, two Dometic reverse cycle heat/air units (one 16,000 BTU, the other 12,000 BTU with the smaller unit recently replaced) most interior lights converted to LED (2017).

Galley and Head

Very functional galley with lovely white Corian countertops, twin oversized stainless steel sinks with hot/cold pressure water and one-touch designer faucet, hideaway three burner electric cook top, built in Panasonic microwave convection oven, U Line under-cabinet refrigerator and Phiestina under-cabinet wine/beer chiller (2019) below and an ice maker at the cockpit wet bar.

Two heads, one with VacuFlush toilet, one with electric, VacuFlush pump system rebuilt in 2017.

Electrical

110/220V AC / 12V DC. Both 50 and 30 amp shore power receptacles (she's currently hooked up to 50 amp, with a Glendenning CableMaster for the shore power cord), Paguro VTE 8.5kW genset (2019, barely 200 hours clocked), 10 Group 27 AGM batteries in two banks (five house batteries, two starting batteries for each of the main engines plus dedicated starting battery for genset, all batteries new in 2021), ProNautic battery charger (2021) Heart 2000W inverter/charger, Balmar 160 amp high output alternator.

Note shorepower system was updated in 2019 at which time the fuses were replaced by breakers, gauges (connected directly to the batteries) custom installed at the helm to monitor all the batteries voltage in real time.

Electronics

12" Raymarine E120W chartplotter with hybrid touch screen for 48 mile radar overlay, Simrad NSS-EVO3 chartplotter/depthsounder/fish finder integrated with Simrad AP44 autopilot (Simrad systems installed in 2020), Icom IC-M422 VHF radio, Ritchie magnetic compass, ship's clock and barometer--note that the ship's clock is a traditional Chelsea wind up striking model that's a work of art in and of itself.

Clarion AM/FM/CD/MP3/Blue Tooth stereo with numerous speakers above and below (including Bose Surround Sound cube speakers and a hidden subwoofer below, 2017) that the 32' Samsung flatscreen HDTV (securely mounted on a articulating arm, input via Sony DVD player and a digital antenna) is also routed through, the system is AWESOME!

Deck and Hull

FRP hand laminated one piece hull and deck with end grain balsa core and molded-in nonskid, long tapered keel and twin cast bronze rudders hung in tunnels for protection. Hull is of moderate displacement and high deadrise for both decent speed and comfortable motion in rough seas.

Anchor platform with 45 lb stainless steel Delta anchor on bow roller with est. 275' of all high tensile chain rode(2016) and Maxwell 1200 electric windlass with power up and down, controlled from deck or helm.

Note extra large swim platform (this was a factory option) with garage for roll up dingy/outboard or fender storage, the exterior aluminum windshield caps were all removed, bead blasted and properly primed before being Awlgripped, underside of the radar arch has also been Awlgripped, all three windshield wiper motors were replaced with heavy duty motors and arms, Sunbrella bimini and polycarbonate enclosure for helm, Sunbrella full cockpit awning with zip-on sunshade at the stern (perfect for summer afternoons up at Tinsley Island!), Sunbrella slantback full cockpit cover (2021).

Engine and Mechanical

Twin Cummins 6CTA-8.3 M2 six cylinder turbocharged and aftercooled 420 hp fresh water cooled diesel engines. As previously noted, significant recent work has been done on these engines and they are IMMACULATE: cylinder heads were removed, checked and serviced, new turbo chargers, exhaust elbows, heat exchangers and aftercoolers, and all engine hoses replaced.

Note the engines are the original Tiara Blue, the distinctive shade Tiara used in the 1990s--they'd paint the OEM engines before installing, it's one of the things that make a Tiara a Tiara!

Post-service engineering involved engine alignment checks, propeller balancing and pitch tuning to ensure correct operating conditions under all engine loading demands. A fresh water flush system is installed and used routinely after saltwater is run through the engines and generator.
