1999 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 36.2

location icon Tiburon, California
Year 1999
Length 36 ft
Price
$76,000

The Jacque Fauroux-designed Sun Odyssey 36.2 won Cruising World's Boat of the Year award in 1998 and went on to became a smash hit, easily one of Jeanneau's best selling designs ever and it's easy to see why: the lines are beautiful, interior well thought out, she's spacious yet easily handled by a couple and was relatively reasonably priced compared to other similar-sized European sailboats. As Jack Hornor says in his Boat US review of the design, "The Jeanneau 36.2 offers lots of creature comforts and is well suited for coastal cruising or the occasional offshore passage."

Well over 300 were built over a four year production span, and this particular example has only had two owners since new (current owners for over 20 years), shows much newer than her actual age, and really must be seen to be appreciated.

She's the deep draft, two cabin version (with a dedicated nav table and the two cocktail chairs port side in the salon, this is quite rare as most of the US boats had a straight settee the aft end of which served as the nav table seat), brand new dodger and canvas as of August 2024, low time (barely 700 hours) on Yanmar diesel, and a standard hoisting mainsail (the default 36.2 main was in-mast, with the standard being a factory option). She's scheduled to be hauled and bottom painted shortly (October 2024), ditto engine to be serviced.

She's lying over in Tiburon at the San Francisco Yacht Club so shown by appointment, please.

Manufacturer Provided Description

The Jeanneau 36.2 is constructed from a hand-laid fiberglass hull, with fully encased floors and hull longitudinals plus perimeter bonded structural bulkheads. The balsa-cored deck is through-bolted and bonded with elastic polymer to the hull. This method of building provides for superior strength and rigidity. There is also a vinylester resin skin coat for osmotic protection.

The cockpit-deck includes swim platform and ladder with shower, walk-through transom with hinged helm seat for easy access, wheel steering, pedestal instrument console and folding cockpit table, aft-mounted genoa sheet winches for easy shorthanding, wide coach roof and deck lounging areas, five hatches and 10 opening ports to provide ventilation.

In terms of sails and rigging, there are cockpit-mounted, self-tailing genoa sheet winches and a roof-mounted halyard-main sheet winch. Roller furling headstay, classic aluminum mast and boom, stainless standing rigging, low-stretch running rigging, mainsail and furling genoa, sail controls are led to the cockpit.

Below deck, the starboard aft cabin has a queen berth with hanging locker, boot locker and storage shelf. The galley offers double stainless sinks, top loading icebox, two-burner stove with oven, and ample storage space. The marine toilet with aft shower area is separated from the sink-vanity by a Plexiglas door. The salon boasts a large U-shaped dinette with opposing twin captain's chairs and big, fixed table, aft-facing navigator's table with electrical panels outboard and a hanging locker. Forward, there is a long V-berth in a separate stateroom with hanging locker, vanity with sink and mirrored locker, plus storage shelves.
